As they were preparing to remagnetize the 416s, Chris was adding and removing various shims so that the horizontal central plane of the speaker magnet was at the same height as the horizontal plane of the magnetizer coil. Bill explained that if the alignment was off, the driver could be bounced off the ceiling when it was hit with the 17,000 Gauss magnetic field produced by the coil. I found it interesting that Chris placed his upper body across the top of the speaker frame to weigh it down, just in case!

Me personally, I like field work, going out in the big world, and installing it, and making it happen! To me this is where its at!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I actually use most of my Altec equipment on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis doing live performances for crowds ranging from 20 to 800. I do plenty of live sound work, but also love to work on the equipment myself, and have built all my cabinets myself. They aren't much to look at, but they kick out a lot of sound and I am always getting compliments on the quality of the PA system.

Ditto. That is exactly the comments i get in my buisiness with my commercial system! How do you get so much sound, yet you dont have alot of power, they ask me! And it doesnt hurt, they always say!
People always remark about how clear my sound is!
Then I get the people who go to all the NYC nightclubs, wondering aloud, why does a bumper car ride at Coney Island have better sound than any nighclub?
It has better sound, because I have the place, I grew up here doing this, and I have, thus far, been unable to accept what the major manufacturers throw at us as being state of the art!
My system is massive, its a vintage Altec/JBL system, voiced for dance music, and this room kicks *** !
Bill keeps my woofers in good shape!
